Sustainable water management
The current water management scheme, based on the "flush and forget" concept, is clearly no more sustainable for a number of reasons: we excessively depend on water resources of high quality; we pollute our water, whose impact can be only partially tackled by centralised wastewater treatment plants; we waste precious resources conveyed by wastewater, such as nitrogen and phosphorous; our cities produce a big amount of urban runoff, increasing a downstream flood. But sustainable water management is possible.
